In this video we find five English historical curiosities. We find an old historical dungeon. In Tottington just outside the town of Bury, Lancashire.  A remarkable survivor from 1835 the 19th century. Also a railway footbridge Turton Railway bridge built in a medieval style in keeping with the local Turton tower. Also we visit Rivington Gardens and Rivington pike just outside  Bolton. This is the legacy of Lord Leverhulme a very wealthy man that had the gardens commissioned. We also look at some remarkable bridge architecture built around 1910 in the Edwardian era. Finally we visit The Lancashire Mining museum at Astley Lancashire. We look at the last remaining pit head winding gear in The north west of England and Lancashire. Now grade II listed structure. Lovely victorian and Edwardian engineering and railway architecture.

Five English historical curiosities

In this video we investigate an underground waterway. This is the Wilson brook in the town of Hyde Cheshire just outside Manchester. The brook runs underground, underneath a canal and a motorway. We see a wonderful canal overflow and a magnificent underground waterfall. In this underground urbex adventure we got some surprises as the brook was very difficult to navigate upstream. The brook is a tributary of the river tame in Manchester.

Investigating an underground waterway

In this video the five city boys go camping. The camping was a fail as we are all useless. We also do some light experiments with coloured lights and smoke grenades. Creative photography. We also try some wire wool photography. We camped out ovenight, had a camp fire in the great outdoors in Salford. Then in the dead of night off we went to do some creative experimental photography. These are great night photography ideas. We got some great colourful shots using the Boling P1 and some smoke grenades. Plus wire wool photography. In particular some long exposure shots

In this video we are in Castlefield in Manchester. We are exploring the history of Canals, warehouses and underground tunnels from the 18th century. What we see is a wonderful example of British industrial history from the 18th century. The start of the industrial revolution . Very much Georgian Britain. This is Episode XI of the River Medlock journey. We have finally entered Castlefield and we see the work of James Brindley Francis Egerton and his engineer John Gilbert the force behind the Bridgewater Canal. Britains first Industrial canal. This journey started out with us Kayaking along the Bridgewater canal and ended up an urbex in an underground tunnel in Manchester. We see the remains of a waterwheel chamber that powered lifting gear for the Grocers warehouse one of the first 18th century warehouses. We also look at Brindley's now altered weir, the flood defence mechanism for Castlefield basin.

In this video we look at a few things from past videos. We found an old Victorian Cartwheel by the River Irk in Manchester. What do you think. Is this a piece of old Victorian engineering. We visit one of our favourite storm drains in full flow during heavy rainfall. On the River Medlock. Finally we visit the site of the former Bank Mill in Salford and take a look around this old Art Deco building. A wheel, a drain and a mill

In this video we go back into the River Medlock in Manchester. Investigating Rivers in the dark. On this underground river urbex mission. This time we go looking for the River Tib outlet. Hidden away underground Manchester is a little archway in an Edwardian Victorian river culvert. Where the River Tib finally meets the River Medlock. The river Tib flows secretly underneath Manchester City centre. It is an underground river seldom seen.  We also go to look at the river syphon or underground tunnel that carries the River Medlock underneath Castlefield at Knott Mill.  The Victorians certainly had a unique way of dealing with rivers. They basically culverted them and banished them underground. We see some hidden city centre victorian architecture in the form of old bridges that are hidden from view.

Steps to Sewer Overflow?

In this video we go underground in Manchester UK. Into the fascinating world of drains. On this urbex, urban explore video we enter a storm drain or a culvert. It is an overflow drain for North Manchester's Moss Brook or Moston Brook. The Moston brook is a small waterway that starts in North Manchester UK and for most of its length it is hidden and culverted. This over engineered masterpiece of Victorian and Edwardian civil engineering is designed to take the flood waters of the Moss brook down to Manchester's River Irk. We had a great time exploring this underground drain and its tunnels. It links up to the Victorian sewer system. The Victorians and Edwardians did so much for Englands sewers and waterways. They were great engineers and the brickwork is craftsmanship and amazing. This is a great insight into Manchester's waterways.

In this video we have a whistle stop tour of six interesting places in West Yorkshire. I had a day out with Youtuber AdventureMe. He showed my The largest railway embankment in Europe on the Pudsey loop disused railway  line former Great Northern Railway. We also visited the Greenside disused railway tunnel. We also visited the Moravian settlement of  Fulneck. We then traveled on on our day out in Yorkshire to Saltaire a famous village constructed by the Victorian mill owner and philanthropist Sir Titus Salt. In the 19th century. After looking at the remains of an old fulling mill by the river Aire we then move on to The remains of an old house. The old 19th century house is called Milner Field built in 1872 for Sir Titus Salt son. We explore the what remains of this old English house on this Urbex day out in West Yorkshire. We also see the Leeds and Liverpool canal. All this is situated in West Yorkshire between Leeds and Bradford.

In this weeks video we take a trip to the Anderton Boat lift. We cruise along the Trent and Mersey canal in a narrowboat and then descend in This Cast Iron giant of Victorian engineering down to the River Weaver Navigation. The Anderton boat lift is one of only two boat lifts in the UK , the other being the Falkirk wheel. The Anderton being much older built in 1875. The Boat lift is made of Cast iron and is a triumph of Victorian engineering built for the canal age. It has a unique place in British Industrial history as it was nearly lost in the 1980's due to corrosion but saved by the National lottery and the community. The Boats are lifted and descend in cast Iron tanks called Caissons there is a single Hydraulic ram underneath each caisson. This is a unique feature along Britains waterways and canals. A leviathan of Industrial History. We also take a look at Hunts Lock at the town of Northwich in Cheshire. Thank you to Stuart from the Canal and River trust for chatting to us.

In this video we go looking for the abandoned mills in the valley. The valley is Ashworth valley Heywood, Rochdale Lancashire. The valley is created by the Naden brook. The mills are early 19th century remains of Coal bank mill and Ashworth mill. Once fulling mills they later became cotton mills. They were the original Lancashire cotton spinning mills. We also look briefly at evidence of mining in the Lancashire coal field. In our historic countryside walk we encounter some beautiful English countryside. Why Were the Manchester Masters Hanged at the New Bailey Prison

In this video  we take at look at the small remains of the New Bailey prison in Salford Manchester. Built on the Banks of the River Irwell in the 18th century it was one of Manchesters first prisons. It held some famous prisoners. Some of the arrested people from the Peterloo Massacre were held there and The a later lord Mayor of Manchester Abel Heywood was held there.  We see the archaeological remains of the prison. The most famous prisoners were the Manchester Martyrs who were also hanged at the New Bailey prison. The hanging was a botched job. We shall take a look at the brief history of the Manchester Martyrs. The New Bailey prison preceded Manchester's Strangeways prison.

In this video we walk along a disused railway line to look at the remains of an old Colliery, mine and look for the remains of a power station.The disused railway line is the East Lancashire railway Manchester Bury and Rossendale line. The Colliery , old mine is the Outwood colliery in the Irwell valley near Salford and Manchester.  on this countryside walk we are looking for clues to the Industrial past. This area was once very Industrial. There is little left of the old mine and power station. We discover a railway bridge a fine example of Railway architecture. We look at some old maps to try and find these abandoned places. This video visits abandoned places and old industrial sites to examine the Industrial history of Salford and Manchester.

In this video we continue our study of Wet Earth Colliery. We now follow on from the work of James Brindley and look at how this Colliery in the Irwell valley evolved. We are following the feeder stream into the colliery. This feeder stream later became a canal, Fletchers canal and at the colliery was a  Loading basin. There is a rich history of coal mining at Clifton and the Irwell valley. Mathew Fletcher developed the Wet earth Colliery and later Botany Bay colliery. We are in the undergrowth looking for clues to the past workings of this mine on this historical archeological search and its also an Urbex urban exploring quest into the past Industrial history of such a fascinating place. This video looks at the Mining History in Salford and Manchester.

James Brindley and Wet Earth Colliery Part 3

In this video we visit an underground tunnel that has thwarted me previously. Plus we go looking for the infamous stairs in the woods. This is set around the old Hartshead, Heyrod power station. And the Micklehurst loop line which is now a disused railway in Tameside, Ashton Under Lyne Manchester UK. The tunnel was full of thick deep mud that ruined our Urbex urban explore mission. So we came back with a remote control Tank, camera mounted on top to see deeper into the tunnel. Plus we eventually find the stairs in the woods that lead to the decaying industrial sight of the old coal hopper room. Set in Manchester this is urbex, history and industrial heritage railway architecture and industrial remains and decay set within a disused railway line.

In this video we take a walk along the Cheesden Valley between the Lancashire cotton mill towns of Bury and Rochdale. We see the remains of the lost mills in the area. These mills are from the early part of the Industrial revolution and were woollen, cotton and bleaching and dyeing works. All that remains now is ruins but they are now quite beautiful. They could not compete with the cotton super mills that were emerging in the nearby city of Manchester. This history walk will look at old maps to try and make sense of this industrial decay. We start at Cheesden Lumb lower mill and walk down the Cheesden Valley along the brook. This is a country walk and an Urbex. We start by looking at a Folly, then an Old disused cinema in Manchester and finally we look at some retro vehicles that were thre Photoe wheelers. We are filming this from Hartshead Pike in Tameside Ashton Manchester. We look at the history of Hartshead Pike or some call it a Folly. Then Dean looks at the history of the Essoldo Cinema in Stretford Manchester. Its built in beautiful art deco style. Finally we look at the ultimate in retro 1960's 1970's vehicles we look at the old Three wheelers. From the Scammel Scarab to the famous Blue Inva car to the Reliant cars. In this weeks video we discuss the Cholera epidemic of the 1830's We also look at how Beer played a major role in keeping people safe and we go to Bradford for a special report on an old watercourse. I attended an art installation lecture called a Drunk Pandemic last year as part of the Manchester International festival. Great for the History of  Manchester. There was a lecture on Cholera and an art installation by some Japanese artists called Chimpom art. That explains the thumbnail to this video. The whole event was held at Manchester Victoria station or in the Undercroft by the River Irk. We entered the station vis the spooky Walkers Croft path. We also have a report from Stevie part of Team Zero who takes us on a journey along a watercourse in Bradford.
